DOUBLE INTENSITY!!!

Paul Marston Racing drivers are hoping to step up their Championship bids by double classing in the 07 season. This has only now become a possibility due the expansion Of the Paul Marston Racing fleet. Dave Catton, driver of the Whoopass Monza approached Paul Marston with the idea of expanding the amount of seat time that the drivers could now potentially enjoy. Dave is hoping to contest two classes Super Gas and Super Comp during the 2007 season.
Tethys who will be driving our latest addition to the line-up, details of this new racecar will be announced shortly, is also looking at potentially competing in two classes as well. Tethy’s attended and graduated Frank Hawley’s Drag Race School in Gainesville Florida earlier this year and is looking to accelerate his racing experience by competing in two classes Gary Springford proprietor of Drag Race Engineering (0208 597 9484) is also considering running in two classes in his Injected Big Block Chevy powered Hulk Shogun during his 07 campaign. Garys choice is yet to be decided but the likely two classes would be Pro ET and Super Gas. Paul Marston is also considering the option but would probably use two different racecars in two different classes. The PT Bruiser in Super Pro and a second Racecar in Pro ET most probably as it is without doubt one of the most exciting classes in UK Sportsman Drag Racing to compete in. This would see PMR along with the new and exciting additions to the driving squad for 2007 a potential entry of up to ten. With Paul Marston Racing drivers being able to now double class in the same Racecar. We hope this will result in an improvement in rounds won percentages, National Event wins and points earned for the National Championships. There is still some space left for anyone wishing to join our drivers line-up, we are always ready to welcome new talent and make sure that they have exactly the same opportunities as everyone else, parity is always a top priority. PMR Best Season Yet!

This is the latest
update on how the Paul Marston Racing Drag Race Driving School progressed during the 2006 season, looking forward to 2007. Paul says...`The Drag Race Driving School really had a fantastic 2006 season, it has evolved into the single biggest team in UK Sportsman Drag Racing. Everyone here at Paul Marston Racing, the Management, Drivers, Technicians, Pit Crew have all worked very hard to achieve this and are justifiably proud. This is exactly what Paul Marstons Drag Race School was set up to do. Encourage more and more people to become actively involved in competing at National Event level here in the UK. By effectively increasing our entries over 2005 by nearly 100%, this has been by far our single biggest achievement in 06. The team now regularly fields around six drivers, most importantly this is manageable, the drivers are competitive and its loads of fun. Paul Marston Racing have a really great team spirit and crew which is essentially the backbone of the whole team. The individuals who made up the 06 team have really jelled together. Not only do the Paul Marston Racing Team race together, unlike some teams, we eat together and socialise together. The 07 Paul Marston Racing Team will remain the same so we are looking forward to capitalising on that consistency of personal to make us even more competitive during 07. During 06 Paul Marston Racing won National Events, were No1 Qualifiers and had drivers finish in the top ten of their classes, nearly won a track championship, it was a good season, a solid foundation to build on for 07. 2006 saw Paul Marston Raciing introduced two new race cars and returned the infamous PT Bruiser to active competition. Add to this we have more Driver courses and Passenger Rides completed during 06, it really was an outstanding year. If you would like to join our team and possibly enjoy some success of your own. We do at this time have one or possibly two spare seats available in the Paul Marston Racecar Rental at National Events programme, one of which being the all conquering National Event winning Grumpys Dodge, available for Super Street or Super Gas Classes at this time for the 2007 season. The packages are very attractive practically and financially, you can choose single event, Track Championship or full season, priority would be given to a driver with a Track or National Championship proposal but we have never turned anyone away and never will do, we are here to make the deal work for you. If you are considering becoming a Drag Race competitor in 07 and need some tuition then give us a call. Or if you are at a loose end for a Christmas present with bite, there are Paul Marston Racing`s Infamous Passenger Rides and Drag Race Driving School Courses available. They make simply just the perfect Christmas Present. For more details and information please contact us on 07831 650230 or office@pmracing.fsnet.co.uk Lastly everyone here at Paul Marston Racing would like to personally thank and show their appreciation and wish Merry Christmas for all the hard work carried out by the Track Crew and Management at both Santa Pod and Shakespeare County Raceway. Not forgetting all our sponsors and friends old and new, Drag Race Engineering 0208 597 9484, Black Box London 0208 597 4575, JW Transmissions, BLP - Bo Laws Products Inc, Mac Tools, Snap-On Tools, 76 Fuels & Lubricants, London Road Tyres 01708 735355, UK Cruisers, Chrysler UK, ChryslerCard, Custom Car, American Car World, all our American Racer Friends in Division 2 and all the rest. No forgetting Tog and all the guys at Euro Dragster, you are such an essential part of the European Drag Racing scene, we would be lost without you.

THE FLORIDIAN CONCLUSION!!!!

Following on from part one, here is the conclusion to the latest PMR Floridian adventure. Anyone who has never visited Orlando Speed World for the 14th Worlds Fastest Streetcar really has missed out. 2006 was according to a rather shellshocked Randy Weisinger, the owner Carl`s son, simply the biggest Fastest Streetcar Event that they had staged to date. Gary and Paul caught up Tuesday after at Robbies Speedshop Automotive One Performance Center T-407 422 6168 where they were meeting Randy to discuss other Drag Race related matters. With a car count reaching around 120 cars in the 10 1/5” tyre class all trying to make the 32 car field and nearly the same in the other three classes, you get the picture. To say that the major growth area in Drag Racing is these kind of heads up classes is just the tip of the iceberg, it is huge over here and still growing. With the advent of TV shows like Pinks getting top ratings, its just adding fuel to the fire. To miss the massive entry queues at Speedworld, Gary Springford, Tony Morris and Paul Marston arrived late. It was 2.00am that morning before we hit the sack, after checking out the Friday night Test & Tune at Moroso Motorsports Park. Rolling up at 1.00pm at Speedworld the huge car parks were already full as was the side of Highway 50. Luckily Tony Morris races there regularly so we found a spot near the exit. The track action was like a battlefield all day long, we soon hooked up with Steve Conner flying the Automotive One flag with his 71 big block Camaro. Teamed up with Mark from NoBullRacing.com who used to work for Robbie at Automotive One, now works at BLP. Mark had thrashed all night to get his beautiful 67 Nova`s gearbox repaired to make the show. Putting in some hardcore driving, wrestling the 1800 horses in the blown alcohol injected 3800lb monster to a best of 7.32 @ 189 mph is no mean feat. Mark actually made the show, no shit, this is a genuine street driven, takes the kids to school and does the shopping street car. Leaving Speedworld at 8.30pm we had seen enough, its a great show, this is the only place on the planet where you can see this kind of racing, its an event not to miss. We stopped off at Chilli`s on the way home for dinner – Steak was the order of the day, then hit the sack, another early start tomorrow. Sunday saw us on our usual early start, its a big country and as the saying goes, there is always a Drag Race somewhere in the Southern States. This time it was Georgia for the Nostalgia event at South Georgia Motorsports Park, Valdosta. It was laid back affair as is the custom with all Nostalgia events, but being an inaugural event Big Daddy Don Garlits was in attendance with a replica of Swamp Rat 1 which he actually drove and very very nearly destroyed it in the process. A very slick piece of driving from the 70+ year old saved the car and himself from injury, something everyone in attendance was heart in mouth over whilst they watched. South Georgia Motorsport Park is a brand new state of the art facility, opening its doors for the first time only two years ago. It incorporates all the latest spec, hosts pre season testing for all the NHRA professional classes and was the track that Santa Pods very own Two Seater Dragster was put thru its paces prior to being shipped over to Blighty so Paul Marston really enjoyed returning to the track. As soon as we arrived we bumped into Joe Hollofeld who works at BLP, Joe is their fuel pump specialist and is restoring a Supercharged Dragster that he will be running next year at Nostalgia events with his son. Joe had to leave early as his son had been involved in a serious auto wreck the day previous and although he appeared to be okay Joe wanted to get back and insist that his son did go down to the hospital to get properly checked out. But waited for us to arrive and introduce us to some of the teams who were racing there. Particularly a couple of guys who were very knowledgeable with mechanical fuel injection, so as Gary could share some of their lifetime of experience in setting up his own injection back in England. Gary and Paul were very touched by Joe`s selfless act in making sure we got hooked up with his buddies, Joe obviously needed to be somewhere else but still made sure we were fixed up before he would go, Both Gary and Paul were humbled by such a selfless act and will not forget it. I am happy to report that although badly bruised and battered, Joes son checked out fine at the hospital. South Georgia Motorsports Park or Valdosta as it is known by the racers hosted Top Fuel Dragsters, Fuel Funnycars, Top Dragster and a full supporting cast, it really was a very pleasant way of spending a day, well worth the near 600 mile round trip. The weather was beautiful Georgia sunshine, its a Dragstrip that both Gary and myself would like to return to and race at in the future. After Gary & Paul`s traditional visit to the souvenir shop we set off late afternoon, arriving back in Orlando around nine pm, had dinner in Denny`s and hit the sack again! The Chrysler 300C hire car had not missed a beat, it got our recommendation and alot of admiring glances and `cool car` comments from the racers and the locals. Monday was a later start than usual (8.00am) as Valdosta was our second last Dragstrip to visit and we needed a lay in ! So did the Chrysler, with six miles on it when collected, it now had over three thousand, making the average daily mileage over two hundred and fifty. After checking the e-mails, morning coffee and phone calls home, it was off to the shopping Malls, we had been asked to find a jacket by the wife of one of the Paul Marston Racing drivers, which was becoming particularly elusive to locate, its really amazing just how fast things can change over here, the year before it was no problem. Eventually with some good detective work and a little luck we did indeed find it, plus alot more that we were not looking for but were pleased we did. The rest of the remaining days here were spent collating all the parts that we had ordered, as usual there were loads of them. This of course included Tony Morris and the guys at BLP working their magic on an old style Dominator that Paul had carried over from England to be converted to alcohol, Tony had recommended that it was worth getting an old style Dominator done if Paul had one. They are particularly suited to alcohol. This also gave Rob Beagle at BLP another opportunity to take Gary , Tony and Paul out for lunch again as a thank you for getting his girlfriends Vintage Rolls Royce repaired down at West Palm Beach last week, this time Paul chose Alien Planet as our lunchtime destination. Previously it had been ARTS just down OBT (Orange Blossom Trail) from BLP where they have the very best cheeseburgers in the whole of Orlando. Our usual suitcase shuffle was compounded by the Airlines current trend to further restrict the weight that you are allowed to carry back in hold luggage. A phone call to the Airline confirmed Pauls suspicion that it had been reduced yet again, that`s twice in 12 months. This did present some last minute problems and yet again it resulted in another late nite dash to I-Drive to get another excess baggage bag. Other than that the time just flew by, with so many friends to see before Gary and Paul left, there just was not enough time to see them all – (apologies to Tim and April Hutcherson, dinner is on us next time). We did intend to go to the test and tune on Wednesday nite at Speedworld before leaving but the weather put paid to that one so a very pleasant night was spent with Tony and Lynn Morris. Gary and Paul would like to thank everyone in the Drag Racing community of Florida and the neighboring Southern States who were so kind and patient trying to understand us, assuming we were Australian, which is usual! All the Guys and Girls at BLP Bo Laws Performance Inc who make simply the very best Gasoline and Alcohol Carbs in the World Everyone at JW Performance especially new sales guy Eric Secaur who make the best Torque Converters money can buy. Robbie at Automotive One (001 407 422 6168) your one stop speed shop in Orlando. All the racers we know, Tony Morris, Larry Nadeau, Tim and April Hutcherson, Steve and Ro Deatherage, Vic Ferea, Mike Ruff, Edmond `The Man!` Richardson, Scott Lemar, Joe Hollerfeld, The Connor Family, Mark No Bull Racing, and everyone else we know. Stay tuned for some big Paul Marston Racing news coming soon as a result of this latest trip.

PMR "do " The States!!

Paul Marston and PMR Driver Gary Springford from the major PMR Sponsor, Drag Race Engineering have sent this report about their latest trip to the States, its one of their more ambitious and is covering half a dozen states and Dragstrips in just under three weeks. The trip started off well with the stop off at Charlotte, enroute to Orlando and security being very interested in our Torque convertor that is destined for John Winters at JW Performance Transmissions. Gary was randomly picked to be searched, was taken behind the screen and asked lots of questions, Paul found all of this hilarious, knowing Garys temper Paul was just waiting for the rubber gloves to come out, then here crunch thud!! This all passed no problem accepting our reasons for carrying the torque convertor back to whence it came from.Paul did his usual job on the Hire Car Desk at Orlando, this time a Chrysler 300C with six miles on it, the speedo currently has nearly three thousand showing, there should be a photo opportunity there when we return it! Trip wise, after the usual visits to BLP Products Inc to see our racing buddy and all round good guy, ex-pat Tony Morris and place our usual orders with the finest Alcohol and Gas Carb specialists there are - period, Applied Race Technology ordering parts again, our Great Friend Larry Nadeau with his Pro Mod PT Cruiser and a very interesting conversation regarding the TV Show PINKS - watch this space. JW Transmissions to deliver our Torque Convertor to the very best in Florida. This along with all the rest, Jegs, Summit, Biondo, RONS, etc, etc.The Road Trip this time is a monster, first stop was last Friday, Reynolds Georgia and Silver Dollar Raceway for the last Division 2 Event of the 2006 season, we met all our racing buddies there, Steve Deatherage and his father Ro and their JW Transmissions backed Super Comp Dragster. Tim and April Hutcherson with their BLP Backed Super Comp Dragster, Dave Hartman driving Tony Morris`s BLP Backed Super Comp Dragster that is currently for sale, anyone interested please call Paul for details and he will put you in touch with Tony. Tony could not make the event due to commitments elsewhere. Mike Ruff the infamous Super Street King of Florida. Vic Ferea in his Ocean Potion backed Super Comp Dragster, Vic made good use of the Event runnering up in the final and making a massive move in the final Division 2 Championship points table. Even my old buddy the legend that is Edmond Richardson was there again competing on his brand new Carbon Fibre everything Super Comp Dragster.Silver Dollar was just a one day visit then the long drive up to Rockingham North Carolina for the IHRA World Finals. Arriving Saturday after a 450 mile drive it was well worth the effort. Pro Mod bump was 6.10, No1 Qualifier 6.01, with records broken in nearly every class it was a truly awesome event. Racing till after 10.00pm at night a truly memorable spectacle. The venue and the racing just blew you away. Yes the Pro Mods did get in the 5`s with a 5.99 in eliminations. Plenty to savour during the 700 mile drive back to Orlando. The Fastest Street Cars on the Planet kicked off with the usual RaceRock Cruise on Thursday, this event is now so huge that the Police have a real headache dealing with it, security was very tight, no Burnouts in I-Drive! but the new addition of a Live Band helped the event go down very well with all who attended. The following all want to say hi to everyone left in England in that chilly weather, Jeff and Belinda Bull, Mick da Fish, Ray and Jackie White, Fat Fred, Pete and the rest of the Big Red Bus Smoke City Wheelers, The Executioners, Steve Patemen and Family, Matt Wright, Paul Jackson. Lee Darby, Moose Hollingworth, Gary Hall, Paul Bentley, The Crowlando Boys and anyone else I have missed.Friday saw Paul, Gary and Tony Morris down at West Palm Beach for Gary to work his magic on a 1928 20/25 Vintage Rolls Royce that belonged to the girlfriend of one of the other guys at BLP. To Gary’s dismay when we arrived it was not a 20/25 but a Phamtom instead that dated back even further to when Mr Royce was still alive. It took a little longer to fix but Gary who is a Vintage Rolls Royce Specialist along with all being a pretty good Drag Racecar Builder got it running beautifully. Just in time for us to pass by Moroso Motorsports Park and take in the Friday Night Test and Tune, its a great Dragstrip, one that we will be visiting again for sure.Saturday was off to Speedworld and the Main Day of Qualifying at the Fastest Streetcar, Sunday saw us back in Georgia, taking in the Nostalgia Event at Valdosta. Paul and Garys sincerest thanks go out to everyone at BLP, Joe Hillerio, Joe Hollerfeld, Tony Morris naturally and all the rest of the guys for their incredibly generous hospitality. Everyone at JW Performance Transmissions and all the Division 2 Racers for trying to understand our version of English.

SO WHO'S GOT THE MAP?

Paul Marston Racing are once again off to the States after finishing off the end of a very busy and successful UK Drag Race season for both the Paul Marston Drag Race Driving School and Paul Marston Racing. Having attended both the Saturday Night Special and on the previous weekend Jap Show, teaching perspective new drivers thru the Driving School programme and giving some more of those infamous Drag Race Passenger Rides. Our UK season is most certainly nearly done, so Paul Marston and Gary Springford of Drag Race Engineering, one of Paul Marston’s principal sponsors are sneaking off to the States but will be back in time for our very last 06 event, the Flame and Thunder Event at Santa Pod Raceway. The purpose of this stateside trip is firstly to crew for Tony Morris and Tim Hutcherson with their BLP backed Super Comp Dragsters as they attend the last in the NHRA 2006 Division 2 series at Reynolds, Silver Dollar Raceway in Georgia. A quick trip up to Rockingham in North Carolina takes in the IHRA World Finals, then just a short 600 mile trip back to Orlando for the Fastest Streetcar Lunacy at Speed world. Paul and Gary are honoured to have been invited to crew on Larry Nadeau’s awesome Pro Modified PT Supercharged PT Cruiser at Orlando Speed worlds Fastest Streetcar Event, something both of them are very much looking forward to. Before anyone asks, No Gary has not seen the map and has no idea how far Paul has got them travelling or how much they will be doing!! All Gary knows is its too far to walk and thinks it’s going to be a break by the pool for three weeks to work on his tan. It’s a major achievement for Paul to actually get Gary on a plane, anyone who is old enough to remember the A-Team will remember BA Barakas and the immortal line `Aint Getting On No Plane Fool` Paul has assured us that just seeing the look on Gary’s face when they close the door on the plane makes the trip worthwhile and the expression on Gary’s face as the plane takes off is actual proof that Gary is indeed the offspring of Spitting Image Puppets!!! There will also be a trip up to Valdosta to take in a Nostalgia Event, this is also out of state but we don’t have to fly! As usual Paul will be on his usual parts buying mission along with checking out the latest Sportsman Racing technology. There is also the possibility that he will be competing whilst out there, so he will keep us up to date on that one whilst out there. This visit to the Land of the Brave sees more progress with an ongoing project that Paul Marston Racing have been working on for some time now. Paul will be attending various meetings whilst in the States. It is potentially one of the most exciting things that Paul Marston Racing have ever been involved in so watch this space, as soon as we have any news we will let you know. Stay tuned into EuroDragster over the next three weeks to monitor Paul Marston and Gary Springfords progress reports as they travel the Deep Southern States. Once again Paul and Gary would like to express their deepest gratitude to their families for allowing them the freedom and support required to embark on this trip, you truly are special people. They would also like to personally thank all the crew at Paul Marston Racing who work so hard throughout the season, without you guys we are nothing, absolutely nothing!

I BELIEVE IT WILL FLY!!

Paul Marston Racing enjoyed the record breaking European Finals at Santa Pod very much. Marred only by the tragic incident that happened late on Sunday, on behalf of everyone in Paul Marston Racing we would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family involved. The event ran smoothly and with so many new records set, it is a real credit to everyone who works at Santa Pod. The success of the European Finals only comes with a huge effort and massive preparation, credit in particular to the track staff whose stellar work on the oil downs kept the downtime to a minimum. Here at Paul Marston Racing we also noticed parity in track performance over the weekend that can only be attributed to again the hard work that the track prep crew were putting in, thank you from everyone at PMR. It was great to have so many fans visit us over the weekend, thanks for stopping by, it kept all of the drivers busy. The new Paul Marston Racing Drag Race Driving School flyers went down well too, with the planned expansion of Paul Marstons Drag Race Driving School in 07, its all about spreading the word. With five drivers in competition, Paul Marston, Gary Springford, Mick Howling, Dave Racing Snake Catton and Steve Bolton we had a great event with varying results. Paul Marston was rewarded for being our top qualifier by being allowed to drink his coffee from the ceremonial Grumpy Mug! Paul, once again back in the PT Bruiser qualified 6th in Super Pro and went three rounds before succumbing to Pat Talbot in her six second Dragster. Paul Marston had another developmental Event, enjoying 100% mechanical reliability which bodes well for the future. The RONS Alcohol Fuel Injection is still being refined, at this event we found plenty of stuff that we put right. Increasing our understanding of the RONS System and in turn being rewarded with some fast times. Culminating in a pair of 8.22’s at 160+ mph, a good spot to pick up from at the National Finals this coming weekend at Santa Pod Raceway. Gary Springford in Pro, 2nd in the National Championship qualified just 11 thousandths off of his dial and was 23rd!! Qualifying in Pro ET at the European Finals was the tightest qualified field we have ever seen in Sportsman Drag Racing History, the bump was 33/1000ths. Gary Springford driving the Whoopass Monza made it no further than 1st Round where Gary pulled a very uncharacteristic red, Gary was mortified!! Putting him on the trailer early for once. The Monza, now running on its newly installed BLP Alcohol Carburetor system ran very well with no problem and was a picture of reliability. Dave Racing Snake Catton shared driving duties competing in Super Gas, qualifying in 10th; Dave went out first round in a valiant effort against the master himself Tim Adam in his Brogie Roadster. We must also thank Tim and his team for refilling the air bottle on the Whoopass Monza, very sporting. Mick Howling competing in Super Street driving the mighty Grumpys Dodge had a great event running some really close to the index numbers but all just on the wrong side. Qualified 8th Mick which is where Mick’s day was done, loosing a close one in round one. Mick was also hosting two of his biggest sponsors, who unfortunately had to leave before Mick ran; they were truly two of the biggest men Santa Pod has ever seen. Both guys are American Football Front Linemen, you could see why! They both enjoyed their first visit to Santa Pod and were very impressed with what they saw and will be back for the Sportsman National Finals. Steve Bolton rounded out the Paul Marston Racing Squad, driving his mean looking Plymouth Scamp in Pro. Steve was hampered with inconsistency over the weekend which was eventually diagnosed as debris from the fuel hose. This was probably caused when the Plymouth was run on alcohol in the States and was now showing signs of rubber erosion. With this inconsistency it would have been pure luck if Steve had managed to qualify and luck was now with him so Steve along with many others went DNQ. But with a simple fix and no harm done, the mighty Plymouth will be ready for next time. The Whoopass Monza was returned to the Drag Race Engineering (020 8597 4575) workshops after the European Finals for some servicing. Whilst there Paul Marston and Gary Springford discovered something that will probably unlock alot more horsepower in the Monza next weekend. When asked Paul Marston said ‘I have always believed that the Monza was playing a game with us, it was far too weather sensitive, the larger camshaft and BLP Alcohol system fitted just prior to the European Finals had little or no effect performance wise. This convinced me that there was a Gremlin in there somewhere. Gary Springford and myself started on the Monza last Friday afternoon, I guess we were on the right path as we believe we have found the problem once and for all, this weekend will tell. Considering what Gary and I found it’s quite staggering that we had such stunning performances out of the Whoopass Monza so far! So watch out!!’ Big Big Big thank yous must go out to all the Crew at Paul Marston Racing, the Crew Chief, Lizz and Sefton, Mad Mick, Mark from DRE, Robin, Ferret and of course our stats man Anthony Middleton. Big ups to the drivers as well, helping out crewing their own cars and their team mates on Thursday Sportsman qualifying when crew was a little thin. With only minor servicing to be done to the Racecars and a high speed lean out system to be fitted to the Bruiser, everyone at Paul Marston Racing is looking forward to the Sportsman National Finals very much. See you all there.
